    Mostly great

I ordered this backpack because I work in a military setting and occasionally need a backpack style kit for hikes. I have a different brand's backpack kit and have loved it for many years but wanted a change because I felt that this one had a more functional layout, which it does. I love how many supplies I can fit into it and everything is easily accessible, which is great. The only thing that I think need improvement is the actual backpack nature of the kit. The bottom of the bag has a very firm board to keep it upright when it is on the ground, which I love. However, that same board combined with the shorter length of the kit ends up digging in to the sacroiliac area and is very uncomfortable. Even upon lengthening the straps so that it hangs lower, the very firm board cuts into the glute area and has the potential to push on the sciatic nerve after longer periods of time, which is also not great. Also, the straps for the backpack are removable, which is great for versatility, but because of the large and sturdy hook, there is not enough padding and the hook digs into the upper trap area. If the shoulder straps were permanently attached, this would be solved and it would be more comfortable. Overall, I'm very happy for the kit but will likely switch out my supplies to my old backpack if I need to take it on any long marches.
